Owt & abowt

In one week I will celebrate my 8th month sisterlocks anniversary! This is also another great milestone as well bc I have maintained my 20 + pounds weight lost! In a few days I will workout with my trainer( I won 2 free lessons) and hopefully whatever he teaches me I can apply on my own and drop this final pant size that I gave been wanting to drop. UPDATE TIMEEEEEE!!!

So much has happen this year. I have been blogging on my other blog, but I have not blogged on here. These past few months have been crazy. I lost 30 lbs, I moved from St. Louis, MO to the Hampton Roads area. I started a new job as a Graduate Assistant and I have some amazing coworkers. I also have some amazing supervisors and employees under me. And for that, I am very thankful and grateful!

      I left my job as an AmeriCorps VISTA two weeks early to start my job as an Graduate Assistant and AmeriCorps informed me that I would not receive my EDUCATIONAL AWARD. But long story short, I prayered about it and told myself that I am child of GOD and I have nothing to fear.  AND I AM SO GLAD THAT I DID. The LORD as truely blessed and has continue to bless me. One week before school started, I was rewarded scholarships on top of the scholarships that I had already received before coming to the graduate school. The money superceded the amount that AmeriCORPS was going to give me. Then I was blessed again to land a PAID internship. So to recieve scholarships that paid for my room and board, tutions and fees, books, and on top of that more scholarships and none of them are loans. I am truely humbled,blessed, and Thankful! When the devil trys to destorys, the Lord always swoops in like an eagle and protects and guides me through any and every storm.

      I am starting another new journey as well. I am now entering into my 4th week of my graduate school. I am currently pursing my Master in Social Work.  Social workers take advantage to teachable moments, most of our clients think they cannot advocate for themselves, but I will never allow them to under estimate the power they truly have as an individual. True advocacy work is empowering those without a voice to find theirs and use it for change rather than complain about what isn’t fair or right with life.I absolutely love my program, professors, and cohorts. I am learning so much! It is def. intense, but it is so worth it. I personally feel that that this program will prepare me to be an extraordinary social worker that are on the side lines cheering and playing the field as a partner in the success of my clients. I am working at a practicum that I really enjoy. So that is a blessing. I hope these next two years go by fast and that the Lord continue to bless me and place people in my life that will help guide me and allow me to grow as an individual and as a young professional. I also pray that that before I gradaute with my Masters that I am able to find employment.      

PS... The President of The United States: Barack Obama came to my school and spoke and I was blessed to hear him speak! What an amazing oppurtunity this was my 3d time hearing him speak in person. The first time was in 2008 when he was running, the 2nd time was n 2010 after he won the election, and now again in 2012 as a graduate student. Reality Health Check:


I am currently at the 20 pound mark! go me!!! I want to lose 10-15 more pounds however... Hopefully I can say that I reached that goal when I start graduate school this fall. Please note that it’s not just a superficial thing.  Extra fat is bad for your organs as it “smothers” them and causes inflammation.  Extra body fat also increases wear and tear on our joints and can increase chances of gallstones, diabetes and high blood pressure.
Fact: for every 10 pounds that you lose, you take 40 pounds of pressure off of your knees.  Enough said.  I’m on a mission to save my knees! :)

May Don't Play 2012 Fitness Challenge

The Fitness theme for the month of May is CARDIO, CARDIO, CARDIO.. I realize that I may have went too hard with everyone for the month of April because a lot of people went home. lol. Although I had 3 women who did complete the challenge with me. So kudos to them!!! So I decided to lighten it up for the month of May. Here is the May challenge. Its not as hard as April but I beleive its achieveable for everyone! If you guys can exceed this then even better! Let the challenge begin!!!!

40 miles
1000 mountain climbers (Some call it a spiderman push-up),

100 Spidermans (Also known as an lower back extension or full swan)

I exceeded everything from my challenge but the running... I came close but I am still upset that I did not get those 40 miles like I wanted. However I am excited because everything else I exceeded. So I am so excited. Also in the month of April, I tried out being a vegan for a week, and I really liked it. I do not beleive that being a vegan is something that I will do for life but I am def going to start incorporating meatless Mondays and Wednesdays in my life!
More Great News
Yesterday I got measure and I did the comparison from 9/15/2011 to 4/30/2012...I have lost a total of 18.25 inches off my total body. I have lost 5% body fat & my BMI has gone down 2.1%. I am also down 20 pounds!!!! Go me! I am excited about my results however I am still not where I want to be. So I still got to keep working. I am almost at the finish line.
Next Challenge:
Which lead me to my new challenge for the month of MAY... It’s all about that cardio in May. So May’s  Challenge is: May Don’t Play!!!! My next post will go over what it is!!!

April challenge update 4/6/12

Ran 4.6 miles on the treadmill... It only took me all of one hour. Lol.So right now i am averaging about 13 mins. a mile ... My goal is that one month from now I can shed 2 mins off that time and do 11 mins per mile... That way I can run at least close to 6 miles in one hour.... Cheer me on from afar. Lol
Sn... That brings my running total to 9.74 out of 40... I hope to get in 4 more miles this weekend... My personal goal is run at least 14 miles a week

April fitness challenge update 4/5/12

1st workout of the day was bootcamp which consisted of lifting and lots nd lots of squats... I lost count at 215....The 2nd workout consisted of me running 1 mile in my neighborhood... 124 lunges, 10 sets of 5x5... 60 push-ups,30 sit-ups, 100 side crunches, and 100 bicycles.... Woooo good workout!
Total as of today:
Push-ups: 110
Squats: 695 of 1,000
Crunches: 741 of 2,000
5.14 of 40 miles

Hair/ workout challenge 2012

Hair challenge:
today I completed 7 out of 8 of the items on the hair challenge. I did mit wash my hair today... Todays scripture is John 2:19... I did enjoy that scripture today.. Workout update:
I also did about 1 hour of cardio as well. I went to bootcamp 3 days in a roll this week.. he has us doing 5x5 the whole time. So that was really good cardio... My arms are Def sore... But hey that's a good thing. today was the first time in about 2 weeks that I did not work out for a second time. I went home and went to sleep and when I woke up it was 8pm and I didn't feel like doing any squats or anything...I didn't get a chance to write yesterday but my second workout of the day on Thursday was Zumba... That was a great workout as well. This weekend I gotta get it in with the running...that is my update for the day! Thanks for reading!

Senior options living fair 2012

So this past Saturday, March 31,2012... I would say it was a success... I had a steady flow of attendees... We had contentional breakfast for the vendors as well as food the attendees... My team helped get 1200 in donations. Along 450 dollars in donations from.Boeing... I also had food from fazolis for all my volunteers..it was advertised inbthe newspaper,internet,bulletins in 21 churches.blogs,radio,and new releases and PSA.huge posters and fliers around the city. Attendees also had a free massage and 25 paid confirmed vendors... I created a survey for attendees and vendors and got lots of postive feedback and door prices...below are some pictures... I am just happy that the seniors got the resouces they needed and I was able to build partnerships with other agencies and organizations at the event..The fair was designed to be a one stop shop for older adults to get the resources they need.. Wheather its housing or funneral,or home repair, amp rank,medical it was there... Oh I also had a professional photographer taking pictures of the event. all and all this was a success....

Workout hair

So I went in for my second workout for the day zumba.... I feel like I burned 1,000 calories. But my hair shrunk up something serious.... I lost count on the crunches lets say 250 plus the 60 I did earlier.... So 310 for the day.... I didn't run today so I'm going to have to run 4 miles tomorrow.... Ugh I'm dreading that... I'm not a runner that's why I added this to my challenge because I need that push....I can't w8 to see what my body looks like 4 weeks from now.... Oh I'm back to taking my vitamins again.... I take my multivitamin,fish oil, b-12, and biotin.... Can't w8 to go to kettle bell class tomorrow afternoon.check out my workout hair... ;)

HAIR CHALLENGE 2012

Ok, So I have been so into my new fitness challenge that I completely forgot my hair challenge.. Here it is:
1.Drink Water. 
2.Hair Growth Imagery
3.Massage scalp daily (finger tips)
4.Daily hair regiment (hair spirtz with rosemary oil)
5.Biotin cap (optional) need Medical Doctors ok
6.Weekly scripture meditation 10 minutes a day 
7.60 minutes exercise weekly (20 min 3 x a week treadmill) need Medical Doctor ok
8.Wash hair every 2 weeks with shampoo. Rinse on other times

Start date April 1 2012
New hair goal shoulder length with curls. Shoulder blade base, arm pits


So far, I have drank 3 glasses of water, I have massaged my scalp this morning, spirtz my hair with rosewater and water, did my one our workout. And I am I about to read the bible on my phone...6 out of 8. I am not doing too bad for someone who forgot the challenge. haha.
