New Hairdo 5 26 2011
Hello everyone. So if you all don't already know I made a promise to myself to have one year of different protective styles. So far I have been holding true. This is month 5. So far I have rocked two strand twists, Nubian twist, and twisted updos. I can see that my hair is growing a lot.I wanna say 1-2 inches since I have had the Nubian twists put in my hair about 2 months ago. So thats exciting. I cannot w8 to see what my hair is going to look like in 2012. My goal is to have thicker and fuller hair. I cannot say this enough but I really want wider hair.lol. It may sound strange to you, but that's my goal. I have been washing my hair about twice a month. Also I grease my scalp with my 17 essential oils( I purchased that bottle from a youtuber) and every other day before I get into the shower I spray my braids with my oyin handmade Greg's juice. I like to think that that works and helps keep my hair moisturizer throughout the day. Below I have attached pictures of my most recent hairstyle that I got done by my beautiful and talented hairstylist Faith from black butterflies. She does most of my natural hair styles, Nubian twists, and updos!!!

5 Bad Curly Hair Habits You Should Break
Make a clean break from your bad curly hair habits!
We all want our curly hair to look great every day. But even with the best products in our bags, we can still damage our curls with bad hair habits. Here are a few that are worth breaking!
1. Pulling back our hair too tightly
Protective buns, puffs, and ponytails can be good ways to keep hair out of your face, but they are also a major source of thinning edges. Tightly hair styles can add stress to hair follicles, causing breakage. You should try keep these high-tension styles to a minimum, but if you must do them, do so wisely. Using an elastic hair band or hair band with a metal part can snag on your hair and snatch you bald, yanking out your follicles. Ouch!
But there is a solution to this problem: Try a silk scrunchy, or if you need something more discrete, a Goody Ouchless headband. Ouchless headbands are comfortable and can be stretched out to allow your hair to breathe a little. KCurly of newlynatural.com had a great tip for safely wearing headbands: soak the headband in an oil or moisturizer before putting it on. This is less damaging to your follicles.
2. Being scissor-happy
When I first did my big chop, I was always looking for a reason to “trim” my hair. Many naturals still believe that the more you cut your hair, the more it will grow. This belief has led many astray. While trimming your hair every so often is good, you have to give it time to grow. Cutting it won’t speed up the process. Instead, focus on having a healthy scalp. A healthy scalp promotes healthy hair growth. So put the scissors down and let your hair grow at its own pace. It will grow eventually if you just let it.
3. Over-shampooing
Yes, I know. It’s hot. When it’s hot, you sweat. When you sweat, your scalp is a mess. But before you run off to shampoo your hair after every workout, think about reaching for some conditioner instead. Most shampoos strip your hair of essential oils it needs. Co-washing is less harsh on your scalp. I’m not suggesting you stop shampooing altogether (although some have); I’m simply saying that you can co-wash in between your shampoo days.
4. Breaking off fairy knots
Confession: As I am writing this, I stopped several times to detangle my hair—well, actually to pick at some fairy knots I found on my ends. I already have chronic hand-in-the-hair syndrome, so when you add fairy knots to the equation, it’s a wonder that I ever have a free hand. There’s nothing wrong with loving the feel of your curls under your fingers, but for some of us, hand-in-the-hair syndrome might be hurting our hair more than we realize. Fairy knots are teeny tiny knots that form on the ends of strands of hair. They no stranger to kinky hair. They can appear after the frequent use of styles such braid outs or twist outs. You want resist the urge to pull or break them off; this will only cause more breakage. Instead, grab a pair of scissors and snip the knot. If left unchecked, these fairy knots will tangle your hair and will become a nightmare to deal with. In the long run, your hair will thank you for snipping them off.
5. Roughhousing with your curls
I am guilty of not be gentle enough with my curls, especially when detangling in a rush. Here’s the first tip: slow down and take time to detangle your hair. For me, I know it’s a feat to detangle my whole head of hair. I’m not one of those people who does their hair in sections. I just randomly grab chunks and detangle. I recommend detangling in the shower. Add conditioner and use a wide-toothed comb to loosen and remove any knots. I sometimes bring a paddle brush or use my finger to detangle. But be careful: wet hair is more stretchy, but it breaks just as easily. Even when it’s dry, don’t tug on stubborn knots. Just patiently start detangling from the bottom and work your way up. Be gentle with your hair and make sure you use a moisturizer when you are styling it.
We have been indulging in these bad hair habits for too long. It’s time to cut them out of our routine. It takes 21 days to create a habit. While it will be challenging to rid ourselves of old ones, it’s definitely doable. Are you up for the challenge?

Embracing Your Beauty: Natural Hair Expo
So I haven't had the opportunity to really blog these past couple of days. Let's do a recap of my weekend! This past Saturday was really fun.I went to a Natural hair Expo. It was really good. It was pretty long though I am not gonna lie. They had speakers, vendors, performances, a hair show, makeup was done and photos were taken. They had a opening act with some little girls performing willow smith song "whip my hair" they had license cosmologist demonstrating hairstyles and they discussed how to maintain your hair. Door prizes were given and they also had giveaways!I like the structure of everything and everything ran pretty smoothly. So kudus goes to the two women that put it together. I also like how they had different speakers come in and talk about self esteem and HIV/AIDS. I learned a lot at the natural hair expo on Saturday. 1. Being Natural Is More Than Just Hair...Its a Way of Life :-) 2. the definition of good hair: hair kept in good condition regardless of texture. 3. curl definition: product will only enhance the curl pattern you ALREADY have. You can't change your curl pattern using certain products. All and all good times. I came with friends and we all left with goodies and lots of things to talk about!i I hope this expo is something that happens every year

What a day or shall I say storm!!
Bad storm in Norfolk. All the electricity went out in the shelter. Its raining really bad! I couldn't even see outside. Looks like Ill be stuck at work until the storm dies down. The lords favor is with me because I could have been easily stuck in the store. I am in training to be a financial mentor and every week I drive about 20 minutes to go another city for training. However, I was working on my report and I was running l8. Just think I could have been in that store alone and scared. Parts of the basement was flooding in the shelter. One of my coworkers told me that her daughter stated that it was hailing in some parts of the city. Craziness.
Update: The storm eventually died down and everything went back to normal. Unformatually the shelter was out of power until midnight. I drove home, and was happy that everything in my aprtment was in tact!!! Whew, the Lord is good!!! Praising and thanking the Lord for protecting me once again!!!

If your HS had a reunion would you go?
I would say no. This is my reason. If you managed to be out of my life this long, why try to include you in my life now. If we were really friends, we wouldn’t need a reunion. I don’t really wanna come back and see how everyone doing. People go on these massive diets to impress a man or woman who looks nothing like they did in high school. 9 times out of 10 the person that no one liked will be the most successful. The one that everyone doubted will have swag, a gr8 job, and life . The people that were the most popular and prettiest now probably have the worse shape.lol. Those that were negative will a. still be negative individuals because they have low self esteem anyway so they hide behind insults to make themselves feel better. or b. have a change of heart and want to come to the reunion and ask for a massive chain of forgiveness. I feel like people come to reunions to brag about themselves and what they have done in life or to lie about what they wish they were doing with their life. I know what I accomplished and what I am doing. And I hope their goals and dreams were going well and came true. With social networks like facebook, is there even a need for reunions? Am I wrong for not wanting to go to my HS reunion?

| just say YES to birth control |
I have another story to tell you. I was at the store w8ing in line and I turned a round and this woman was pregnant. I smile and I turned back around. Then she goes, "everyone always want to touch my belly, as soon as they see that I am pregnant." I turn around and I say "are you talking to me." She goes "yeah, I am just talking in general because I am frustrated." Then I say, "oh you don't have to worry about me touching your belly, because 1. I don't know you and that's rude to just run up on someone and 2. I don't like kids." She was shocked and goes "oh I am not saying you I am just saying." I know in her head she was thinking.. oh that bish..lol.. Fact #2: I have never touched a pregnant belly, I have never had the desire to, when I was younger, pregnant bellies would freak me out, I was scared that if I touched one I would get pregnant. No one told me that I just had it in my head. I knew it was not true but I somehow made myself believe that. Crazy I know.
I also h8 when I meet people and they make statements like well what are you going to do if your husband wants children are you just gonna mess that up. My response always is, I want to marry a man that does not want children or doesn't care either way. Beside I personally feel like every man is not mean to be a father. I personally feel like a lot of men and women do not want to be moms and dad case in point, why we have so many deadbeat mothers and fathers. if they truly wanted to be parents they would be in their child's life. I just get scrutinize for stating how I feel. I would much rather be married to the man of my dreams, live in the house of our dreams, and work the job of my dreams and live happily ever after. I want to travel the world with my husbands and go on fun and exciting vacations. I want to be free to just go on spontaneous trips with my man. You cant do that with kids. I feel like raising a child in this society with all this technology, I just don't feel like it. I am happy that my mother had me don't get me wrong, but I read entirely too much. Childbirth, getting fat, stretch marks, mood swings, kicking bellys, dirty diapers, being upset for for close to a year doesn't excite me. Watching teen mom is my birth control. Thinking about sleepless nights that I would not have is my birth control. Seeing kids knock over stuff in the store that embarrasses the parent is my birth control. I just cant do it. I over analyze everything. If I was to get pregnant, I really feel like I would probably have a miscarriage because I am truly afraid of being pregnant, and be a mother. There has to be a phobia name for it. Babyphobia. Please don't ask me to watch your child, and if you want me watch your child, please let it be only for 1 hour or less or if your child is a child that enjoys to sleep a lot. Better yet, don't even ask me. And don't ask me to be the Godparent of your children,. Because God forbid something happens to you and I am responsible for your seed. If I don't want children of my own, what ,makes you think that I want to raise your kid? That sounds rude, but I let me reiterate that I do not like or want children.I am kind of selfish with my time. And the child would get all the attention, and I still want it to be all about me and when you have a child it becomes a we or all about the child. I just cant handle it. Thinking about all this baby stuff is upsetting me. And you know the crazy part, I think kids know I don't like being around them, because they always run to me and want to play with me.
